Yungeen Ace, a rapper from Florida, had a terrible childhood that led to a rocky career in music. He was the youngest of 12 brothers and grew up in a strangely secluded environment, turning to music and street life in his adolescence.

He began releasing solo tracks online in March 2018, and after only a few months of his painful, chaotic songs gaining a following, he was shot and killed along with his brother and two friends in a drive-by shooting. In the aftermath of the tragedy, he released his debut mixtape, Life of Betrayal.

The life I’m Livin (2018), Can’t Speak on It (2019), Step Harder (2020), and Don Dada (2020) were among the rapper’s subsequent mixtapes until he had a viral hit in 2021 with a street-driven flip of Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles.” Later that year, he released his debut album, Life of Betrayal 2x.

Yungeen Ace was born Keyanta Bullard in 1998 and spent his early years in Chicago before moving to Florida with his family. As he approached his adolescent years in Jacksonville, Bullard faced everyday hardships with abysmal poverty and a dismal environment, surrounded by danger and street crime. In March 2018, he released his debut single, “No Witness,” which he wrote and recorded on his own.

Several more songs would follow, but Yungeen Ace’s promising start was shattered in June of that year when he and several companions were shot in a drive-by shooting in Jacksonville as they were leaving dinner. In a group that included his brother Trevon Bullard, as well as pals Royale Smith, Jr. and Jercoby Groover, he survived many gunshot wounds but was the only one to make it out alive.

Following the shooting, the rapper was placed under house arrest, and his debut mixtape, Life of Betrayal, was released in August, followed by Life I’m Livin later that year.

Newer songs inspired by his tragic losses were included in the first compilation, as were older singles like the JayDaYoungan collaboration “Jungle,” which featured a cameo by YoungBoy Never Broke Again. In 2019, he released the 16-track Step Harder with Boosie Badazz, Lil Durk, and others. Ace’s first big effort of 2020 was the Don Dada mixtape, which was led by the single “Heartbroken.” He was carried into 2021 by a prodigious variety of singles including “Withdraw from Life” and “Fighting Pain,” which spawned “Opp Boyz” and “Gun Em Down.” 2021’s “Who I Smoke,” which sampled Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” for a rude chorus, was one of the rapper’s most unusual successes.

Later that year, he released his full-length first album, Life of Betrayal 2x. The only survivor of a drive-by gunshot just before his first mixtape came, Florida artist who experienced tragedy as his music career took off.
